About the Design

This chair belongs to the mid-century tradition of molded-plywood seating pioneered in the 1940s and 50s, when designers such as Charles and Ray Eames proved that bent laminated wood could cradle the body as comfortably as stuffed upholstery. The formula on display here — a curved walnut-faced shell, tufted leather-look cushions, exposed black steel — is the same language that made the era's lounge chairs icons, scaled down and set on a task base. The seat and backrest shells use the same dark-walnut veneer laminate as our mid-century lounge chair & ottoman, so the two pair naturally in a shared room.
