Description

Inspired by the USM Haller modular system designed by Fritz Haller in 1963, this 3-unit media console pairs chrome-plated ball connectors with pure-white powder-coated panels — a Bauhaus-rooted TV stand built to organize the living room and grow with it.

About Fritz Haller & the USM Haller System

Swiss architect Fritz Haller (1924–2012) developed the USM Haller modular system in 1963 in collaboration with USM owner Paul Schärer (1933–2011), originally as adaptable office furniture for the USM factory in Münsingen, Switzerland. Three simple components — a chrome-plated steel ball, a connecting tube, and a powder-coated metal panel — combined into desks, shelves, and cabinets that could be reconfigured as needs changed.

The system entered serial production in 1965 and moved from offices into homes, libraries, and museums. USM Haller is held in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Our reproduction is built in the USM Haller tradition — true to the modular grid and visual language of the original system, which continues to be produced in Switzerland.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Every part of this TV stand follows the logic of the USM Haller modular grid:

  • Connectors: chrome-plated steel balls drilled on six axes, joined by tubular steel rails — the structural skeleton of the system.
  • Panels: powder-coated metal in Pure White, finished for a smooth matte surface that resists scuffing and fingerprints.
  • Drop-down doors: three front doors with soft-close mechanisms, hinged at the base to fold down without hardware on the face.
  • Feet: adjustable leveling feet to true the unit on uneven floors.

The 3-unit configuration combines an open upper display shelf with three lower closed compartments, giving you a balance of visible styling space and hidden storage for media boxes, cables, and consoles.

Care & Assembly

The unit ships with detailed assembly instructions and the tools needed to put it together. Because the system is modular, the panels and connectors are attached on-site — most customers complete a 3-unit build in under an hour with a second pair of hands. Estimated delivery is 4–5 weeks.

To care for the powder-coated panels, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately — avoid abrasive sponges and solvent-based cleaners, which can dull the matte finish. The chrome-plated ball connectors clean up with a dry microfiber cloth; for water spots, use a mild glass cleaner on the cloth (never sprayed directly onto the chrome). Check the leveling feet after the first few weeks and re-true as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add or remove modules later?

Yes — that is the point of the system. The grid of balls, tubes, and panels is designed for reconfiguration, so additional bays, shelves, or doors can be added to expand storage as your needs change. Contact us at Support@BreuerHome.com if you want to size up to a larger configuration.

Is this compatible with the original USM Haller system?

This is BreuerHome's reproduction, built in the USM Haller tradition. The original USM Haller system is still produced in Switzerland by USM and uses its own proprietary tolerances. We don't guarantee part-for-part interchangeability with original USM components; our parts are designed to work together as a complete unit.

What's the weight capacity for a TV on top?

The top of the 3-unit configuration is engineered to hold a typical 55–65" flat-panel television (most are 40–60 lbs / 18–27 kg) sitting on its stand. For heavier or larger displays, or for wall-mounted TVs above the unit where the cabinet only holds peripherals, no special reinforcement is required. We recommend centering the TV over the middle compartment for balanced load distribution.

How do the drop-down doors work?

Each of the three lower compartments has a single drop-down door hinged at the bottom. Pulling the top edge folds the door down and forward, where the soft-close hinges catch it gently rather than letting it slam. The flush front means no visible handles — the doors read as part of the modular grid when closed.

Is it available in other colors?

This listing is the Pure White finish. The USM Haller palette traditionally includes a range of powder-coat colors. If you're looking for a different finish or a 2-, 4-, or larger-unit configuration, email Support@BreuerHome.com and our design consultants can advise on what we can source.
