The executive chair that made a lobby famous. Deep button-tufted cushions in faux leather float inside a polished cast-aluminum frame, on a five-star swivel base with casters — a faithful take on the 1960 design Charles and Ray Eames created for the Time & Life Building. Choose black, white or mint green.
About the Design
In 1960 Charles and Ray Eames were asked to furnish the lobbies of the new Time & Life Building in New York. Their answer was a chair with the comfort of a lounge seat and the bearing of an office chair: thick cushions held between two cast-aluminum side frames, wide enough to sink into and upright enough to work in. It has been known ever since as the Time-Life chair, the Lobby chair or simply the Executive chair. Its reputation for long-sitting comfort spread well beyond offices — Bobby Fischer asked for one at the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavík. This chair follows the same recipe: a seat and two separate back cushions with button tufting and piped edges, padded armrests carried by the aluminum frame, and a swivel base on casters. It suits a home office or study as easily as a conference table.

Care
Wipe the faux leather with a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth and dry it straight away; use only mild soap on marks and avoid alcohol-based cleaners, acetone and abrasive sponges. On the white and mint green chairs, wipe away dye transfer from dark denim promptly. Polish the aluminum frame and base with a dry cloth, and clear threads or grit from the casters now and then so they keep rolling freely. Keep the chair out of prolonged direct sunlight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an original Eames or Herman Miller chair?
No. It is a reproduction in the style of the 1960 Time-Life executive chair and is not made by or affiliated with Herman Miller or Vitra. You get the silhouette, the tufted cushions and the cast-aluminum frame at a fraction of the price of a licensed piece.
Is the upholstery real leather?
No — all three colors are upholstered in faux leather. It is animal-free, wipes clean easily and keeps a consistent color and grain from chair to chair.
What are the metal parts made of?
The side frames and the five-star base are cast aluminum with a polished finish.
Can I adjust the height and the tilt?
Yes. A lever under the seat adjusts the seat height and a knob sets how firmly the chair tilts back; the chair also swivels a full 360°.
Do the three colors differ in anything but the upholstery?
No. Black, white and mint green share the same polished aluminum frame, base and casters, the same cushions and the same price.
Can I order several for a conference room or office?
Yes. We fulfill bulk orders for offices, meeting rooms and hospitality projects. Contact us at support@breuerhome.com for quantity pricing and lead times.
